How I feel joy throughout the day

plus: how to be courageous

The Enlightened Samurai is the most joyful person you’ll ever meet!

Why?

Because of one simple practice: grounding.

It’s a humble habit, but it’s made me more outgoing, more present, and even a little more eccentric—in the best way possible.

But what exactly is grounding?

Grounding means connecting your body directly to the Earth’s natural electric charge.

Every morning, I step outside and place my bare feet in the grass. I don’t do it to get something. I don’t do it for instant results. I do it to feel — to exist without my mind rushing in to overanalyze.

But why should you care?

Because grounding soothes you like a mother.

I’ve heard people call the Earth a sentient ecosystem, some refer to it as Gaia. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I know this: when I sit quietly in the grass, something stirs inside me. A kind of blissful connection that I can’t fully explain.

And sometimes, while grounding, I just start talking out loud — about my goals, my dreams, my plans for the future. And somehow, every time I do, I walk away feeling clearer, calmer, and more confident in what I want from life.

All you need is the willingness to pause, connect with the Earth, and let your body do the rest.

With this practice, you’ll notice an improvement in the quality of your life.

So how can you start grounding practically?

  • Spend 5 minutes barefoot in the grass every day.

  • Invest in grounding sheets to sleep on if you’re stuck indoors.

  • In colder months, hug trees, walk in nature, or just sit in silence under the sky. Even a quiet moment in a tent or under a canopy can ground you.

How to be Courageous - Courtesy of Achilles

Achilles

Achilles, the greatest warrior of the Greeks, stands as the eternal symbol of ancient masculinity.

He was so iconic that Alexander the Great carried a copy of The Iliad (the poem of Achilles’s wrath) with him on every expedition, striving to emulate the legendary hero.

What truly made Achilles the ultimate symbol of masculinity in the ancient world was his courage.

To be a courageous man, in the eyes of the ancients, was to live up to the legacy of Achilles.

Associating courage with such a legendary warrior might make it seem like a lofty, unattainable goal—but in truth, it's simple to achieve.

To be courageous, you need only one thing: acceptance.

The reason you might feel like a coward is because of the resistance within you.

Ask yourself: when things go bad, do you complain? Do you get angry? Do you rage at the unfairness of it all? These are signs of resistance which means you are in denial of the present moment.

However, when you choose to accept what is happening, you begin to shed the resistance that arises in that moment. With this shedding, you become more present, more aware. And in this presence, your most authentic self is revealed.

And your authentic self? It is naturally courageous.

You are courageous!

Cowardice is nothing more than an illusion born of resistance. With the cessation of resistance, bravery shines like a phoenix, rising from the ashes of doubt.
